In 2022, The Smithtown Library Board of Trustees made the motion to remove a Pride display, a decision which caused international outrage. As President of the Board, Brianna called an emergency meeting within 48 hours. The decision was reversed live in a Zoom call with 1,000 attendees.

The 2023 campaign slogan "Keep the right to read what you want to read!" resulted in an outpouring of support from the Smithtown community, and ultimately won the election.
